In Colorado, the Small Claims Court will hear claims in cases where the dollar amount does not exceed $7,500. The County Court Money Demand limit is $15,000. Both of these types of cases are easy to file with court forms that are readily available on the Colorado Judical Website.
If your contract has an arbitration provision, you must arbitrate rather than filing in court. This can be cost prohibitive when the amount in dispute is small. For this reason, Colorado Mediators & Arbitrators LLC has designed a low cost arbitration program to hear smaller dollar disputes of up to $15,000 to allow resolution that might otherwise be unavailable. For cost containment purposes, we encourage parties to submit their dispute based on documents only. When parties feel it is necessary, a teleconference may be requested for hearing the matter. We do not conduct physical hearings on small claim matters.
