Over the last 10 years, Judy West (formerly Judy Larkins) has developed a vibrant mediation and arbitration practice by focusing on her client's needs, accommodating their schedules when time is of the essence, and listening carefully to each party in order to understand the heart of the matter. Approximately 80% of her practice is divorce mediation and post-divorce modifications, and 20% is focused on mediating and arbitrating small business and real estate earnest money disputes.
Judy West provides all services through Colorado Mediators & Arbitrators.
One of Judy's primary roles as a mediator is as generator of options for her clients. The best of these options are developed between the participants in mediation, with a goal of settling the disputed matters at hand. Ms. West utilizes wisdom and common sense as an arbitrator, rendering a fair decision after considering all of the testimony and evidence presented by the parties.
ADR is a field that requires and values professional experience and wisdom. Judy's strong business background spans two decades of professional and personal transactions, enhancing her ability to hear & understand the parties concerns and needs. She gains an understanding of each participant's position and priorities, then generates creative options for settlement in mediation, or delivers a fair and balanced decision in arbitration. Ms. West briefly held a real estate license during the mid-1990's and is a currently serves as an industry arbitrator for FINRA, the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, Inc.
Judy's carefully honed writing skills allow her to collaboratively craft agreements with the participants that capture the essential terms and conditions of settlement. The majority of Judy's clients attend mediation pro se (representing themselves). Judy is adept at drafting comprehensive MOU's or Memorandums Of Understanding with the parties: This document is submitted to the court for enforcement.
All parties have a voice in creating an agreement that works, which increases compliance with its terms and conditions, and a greater degree of satisfaction when the negotiation process is complete.
Significantly, many of her clients have given excellent reviews in multiple formats: LinkedIn and web reviews, emailed letters of thanks, and the best compliment possible - personal referrals to friends and family who need similar results in their disputes.
EXPERTISE: Promoting Fairness, Fair Process and Efficiency
Divorce & Post-Divorce Mediation: Ms. West has an extremely high success rate in bringing couples to a final agreement in divorce and post-divorce matters. Using her knowledge and understanding of finance acquired from a decade of work as a licensed securities broker and insurance agent, she has facilitated agreements in cases of:
- Disputed pre-nuptial agreements
- Maintenance
- Division of family-owned businesses
- Division of debts & assets according to the priorities of each spouse
- Parenting issues including communication, parenting schedules, ordinary and extraordinary expense sharing, private schooling, taxation and dependent deductions
- Large family disputes with protracted systemic conflict. Work oriented toward reconciliation and specific plans for reestablishing trust and redefined roles
The vast majority of Ms. West's divorce and post-divorce cases are pro se couples referred by prior clients, Employment Assistance Programs and attorneys. Her high resolution rate is evidence of her ability to generate practical options for couples to consider when negotiating agreements. Judy’s Memorandums of Understanding are succinct and complete. A Legal Review clause protects the parties and the process when participating in mediation without legal counsel.
Small & Family-Owned Business Mediation: Judy began her mediation career after an Internship at the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission in the Fall of 2002. Judy has mediated EEO, employee relations, and small business disputes between partners, vendors, and clients. Ms. West has a strong aptitude for working with individuals from diverse socio-economic backgrounds to find resolution. She is an expert negotiator, creating agreements that meet the needs and interests of all sides.
FINRA: Ms. West is on the panel of arbitrators as an industry expert for the Financial Industries Regulatory Authority, a self-regulatory agency that enforces the Securities and Exchange Commission laws. Drawing on years of experience as a licensed stock broker and insurance agent (from 1992 – 2002), Judy has participated in a panel of three arbitrators for cases involving alleged mismanagement of funds entrusted to professionals for investment purposes.
